Our Winthrop Pharmacy

GuidePoint Pharmacy in Winthrop opened in January 2011. The former drugstore in town suddenly closed without warning in November 2010. This left Winthrop and the surrounding communities without a pharmacy. Local pharmacists Megan and Ellen were approached by Mike and Laura Schwartzwald to open a new pharmacy in town. Within two months, the store was open and ready for business.

We are a small community pharmacy focusing on first-class customer care. We pride ourselves in helping our patients and enjoy getting to know them. Being a smaller store we may not have every product in stock, but we are always willing to find what you are looking for and order it in for the next day.

We offer unit-dose packaging and provide services to area group homes, assisted living, and long-term care facilities. Located in a rural area, we offer free delivery service in Winthrop and to the surrounding towns of Gibbon, Fairfax, Lafayette, Gaylord, and Arlington. We also offer free mail service. Our pharmacists are trained in administering immunizations and Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services. Our technicians are trained, certified, and have over 20 years combined experience.

Our Winthrop Pharmacists

Ellen Anderson, Pharm. D.

Ellen has always loved small town living. Originally from Lafayette, Minn., a population of less than 600, Ellen enjoys the feeling of knowing almost everyone who walks through the pharmacy’s doors each day.

Ellen received her doctorate of pharmacy degree from South Dakota State University in 2000 and has always worked in the retail pharmacy setting. She helped start Winthrop’s GuidePoint Pharmacy in 2011.  Ellen entered the pharmacy field because she has always had an interest in medicine and helping to make people feel better.

In her free time, Ellen enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, walking, biking, golfing, and knitting.

Megan Schmidt, Pharm. D.

Megan, a Winthrop native, has worked in a pharmacy since she was only 15 years old. For years she observed the relationships between pharmacists and patients and eventually decided she too wanted to become a pharmacist, impacting lives, just as her mentors have done.

She received her undergraduate degree from Winona Sate University and in 2010 her doctorate from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. Megan helped start Winthrop’s GuidePoint Pharmacy in 2011.
